What happens when we change a prompt's persona?

Why the history follows the prompt

The platform does not stamp a persona onto each answer as it is collected. It stores the persona on the prompt and reads it at the moment the card is computed. So when you set a new persona on a prompt, every answer that prompt ever produced is counted under the new segment the next time the card renders, back to the start of whatever window you are looking at.

We think that is the right behaviour. The question did not change; only who asks it changed. A trend line that broke at the date of the reassignment would suggest the audience shifted when in fact only your labelling did.

What to expect right after the change

Metrics are cached per filter combination, so the card and any report filtered by persona can lag the change briefly. Reassigning in bulk, with Set persona on a selection, replaces whatever each prompt had before, and the same catch-up applies. Any delta for the new segment is measured against the equal window before it under the same filters, so the previous period is re-read with the new assignment too.

Deleting and replacing

Deleting a persona does not delete its prompts. They keep running daily on every engine, and their answers move to Unassigned, which always sorts last on the card. Nothing brings that grouping back except assigning a persona again, which is why we treat a deletion as a decision.

Replacing a prompt is different. Reword or re-target one and the replacement keeps the persona, while the original is archived with its history, so the segment's trend carries on.
