Frequently asked question · Visibility by Persona

Can a prompt belong to two personas?

No. A prompt has at most one persona, and setting a new one replaces the old. That is deliberate: it keeps every answer in exactly one segment, so the lines never overlap. If two audiences ask the same thing, track it as two prompts, each worded the way that audience would ask it. Tags are the other option for the overlap, since a prompt can carry many of them.

Why the segments have to add up

The card takes the answers that mention you and divides by all answers to a persona's prompts. If one prompt could sit in two personas, its answers would be counted twice, the lines would overlap, and the segments would no longer sum to your overall mention rate. Keeping one persona per prompt is what lets you read a gap on the card as a gap in one audience, rather than an artefact of double counting.

The same rule keeps the rest of the platform simple. A report filtered to a persona, a content routine pointed at one, and a replacement prompt that inherits one all rely on the prompt having a single answer to "who asks this?".

Two prompts for two audiences

When two segments genuinely ask the same question, the cleaner model is two prompts. A buyer who owns a ten-person business and a buyer on an enterprise procurement team rarely phrase a question identically, and the engines rarely answer them identically either. Writing the question the way each audience would ask it gives each persona its own line and its own history.

Each prompt still runs daily on every engine, so this does cost prompts. That is a reason to be deliberate about which questions really belong to two audiences.

Tags for everything else

Tags are the many-to-many label. A prompt can carry as many as you like, so a tag such as Vendor comparison can span personas without disturbing the split. Any report can filter on tags alongside personas, engines, countries, and prompts.
