Get mentioned by AI

Be one of the names AI gives when a buyer asks.

“How do we get ChatGPT to recommend us?”

When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity for the best option in your category, the answer names three brands, built from a handful of sources. If you are not in it, that buyer never hears of you. We find the questions, make your site something the engines can read and quote, get you into the sources they trust, and keep tracking the mention rate until it moves.

Why it is not happening

The answer names three brands, and yours is not one of them.

An engine names a brand it can read, corroborate, and place. Five ways a brand fails that test, usually without anyone noticing.

  • The engines cannot read your site

Maybe it is a robots.txt rule nobody remembers writing, or the CDN’s bot list, or a page whose text only arrives by script. Whatever the cause, GPTBot or PerplexityBot asks for the page and gets nothing it can quote, and as far as that engine is concerned your brand has no website.

  • Your site never says the thing plainly

The home page promises “solutions for modern teams”, and no page anywhere states what you sell, for whom, where, and at what price in one sentence an engine can lift. The competitor’s page has that sentence, so the engine lifts theirs.

  • The answer is built from sources you are not in

The engine assembles “best X for Y” from a Reddit thread, two review sites, a directory, and a YouTube video. You are on none of them, so nothing backs you up, and an engine will not name a brand on the brand’s own word.

  • You rank on Google, and the engine is not reading the rankings

Page one on Google is a list of links. The engine builds its answer from the pages it retrieves and trusts for that exact question, and your ranking is not one of the inputs. Brands rank first and miss the answer every day.

  • Nobody sees the conversation, so nobody is working on it

No analytics tool logs the answer that left you out, and nobody in the company reads what ChatGPT says about your category this week. So the gap has no owner and no budget line, and it has probably been open for a while.

Why now

Buyers ask AI first, and the answer has three slots.

51%

of B2B software buyers start their research with an AI chatbot more often than Google

Up from 29% in 2025. One in three bought from a vendor they had never heard of before the chatbot named it. 1,076 buyers, March 2026.

45%

of US consumers have asked an AI tool for a local business recommendation

Up from 6% the year before. AI is now the third discovery channel for local businesses, behind Google and Facebook.

68%

of US Google searches ended without a click in early 2026

Up from 60% in 2024, on Similarweb clickstream data for January to April 2026. For two searches in three, the answer is the whole visit.

as often as the next most-cited domains: how much ChatGPT leaned on Reddit and Wikipedia

230,000 prompts and over 100 million citations across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, and Perplexity, July to October 2025. A few sources carry most answers.

How it works

From absent to named, in the order the work happens

Five steps, the same on both engagements. What changes is who ships the fixes and the pages.

1 · Find the questions

Research the questions buyers ask, and see who gets named

Nobody asks an AI for your brand. They ask for the best option for a job, a comparison of two names they have heard, or who does it near them. We research those unbranded prompts for each market and persona, then run them every day on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Mode.

Each run keeps the full answer, which brands were named and how early, and every source the answer was built from. After the first week you know which questions you are losing, to whom, and from which pages.

  • Prompts per market and persona, run daily on every major AI engine
  • Who is named, how early, and which sources each answer cites

2 · Become retrievable

Fix the site so the engines can read it, template by template

The GEO audit runs 21 checks on one URL per template: robots.txt access for 20 AI crawlers, llms.txt, sitemap, canonicals, heading hierarchy, content depth, server-rendered text against a client-side shell, structured data. Each check comes back pass, warn, or fail with the value that tripped it.

Then the pages need rewriting so they state plainly what you are, for whom, where, and at what price, because that is the sentence an engine quotes. On Managed GEO our team ships the fixes. On consulting your platform team does, from a list written per template.

  • 20 AI crawlers let in, checked again after the fix ships
  • A before-and-after score per template

3 · Become citable

Publish pages that answer the question in the first paragraph

Every question you are losing gets a page that answers it above the fold, whether that is a comparison, a buying guide, or a plain answer with the numbers in it. A content routine drafts it from what the engines answer and cite today, and a person edits it. Nothing goes live on its own.

On Managed GEO our team edits the draft and publishes it on your site. On consulting your editors do, with the draft, its verified sources, and a brief on what the current answers miss.

  • Comparisons and buying guides for the prompts where you are absent
  • Drafted by a routine, edited by a person, published on your site

4 · Get into the sources

Earn a presence in the sources the engines trust

The cited-domains and cited-pages tables show what each answer in your category is built from: which Reddit threads, review sites, directories, YouTube videos, and competitor pages. Each one is ranked by how often the engines lean on it and marked as yours, a competitor’s, or somebody else’s.

The roadmap says which of them to earn a presence in, and how: a review profile to complete, a thread to answer, a directory listing to claim, a reviewer who needs your facts for the comparison. This part moves on the sources’ own schedule, and the tracking shows when it does.

  • Reddit, YouTube, and LinkedIn pages ranked by how often the answers cite them

5 · Track until it moves

Watch the mention rate move, engine by engine

Every day the same prompts run again. Mention rate, share of voice against the competitors the engines name, and position score per engine sit in one saved report, and the movers each month say which prompts, competitors, and domains gained or lost.

Nobody honest gives you a date, because the parts move at different speeds. Site fixes get recrawled within weeks, a new page has to be found and read before an engine quotes it, and the third-party sources move when they move. The daily runs show the movement, and the monthly call ties it to what shipped.

  • Mention rate, share of voice, and position score, per engine and market
  • Movers each month, beside the list of what shipped

Questions we hear first

Before you ask ChatGPT about yourself again

Why does ChatGPT recommend our competitors and not us?

Usually one of three things, and the audit tells you which. Either the engine cannot read your site, because a crawler is blocked or the text arrives by script. Or it reads the site and finds nothing worth quoting, because no page says plainly what you sell, for whom, and at what price. Or the answer is built from sources you are not in, so nothing corroborates you while two review sites and a Reddit thread corroborate the competitor. The daily runs add which prompts you lose and which sources each answer cites.

Do we need to be on Reddit and the review sites to get mentioned?

Often, yes. Which ones depends on your category, and the cited-domains table shows what the engines lean on for your prompts: in one category it is two review sites and a trade publication, in another it is Reddit, YouTube, and a directory. The roadmap names the profiles to complete, the threads to answer, and the listings to claim, ranked by how often the answers cite them. Your own site still matters most. It is the one source you control, and it has to state the facts the others repeat.

Does getting mentioned by one engine mean the others will follow?

Not automatically. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Mode retrieve from different indexes, lean on different sources, and change on their own schedules. A brand can be named in most Perplexity answers and absent from Gemini for the same prompt. That is why the tracking runs per engine and per market, and why the report shows mention rate and position score for each one. The site fixes help everywhere at once. The source work tends to land on one engine more than another, and the runs show where each piece of it lands.

What moves first once the work starts?

The audit score, because the site fixes ship in the first weeks and we check the same URL again once they do. Then, as the engines recrawl, the prompts where the missing piece was a readable page start to name you. New comparison and buying-guide pages take longer, since they have to be found and read before an engine quotes them. The slowest part is the third-party sources, which update on their own schedule. We do not promise a date for any of it. From the first month you watch the mention rate per engine beside the list of what shipped.

Which engagement do we need to get mentioned?

Both run the same five steps. Managed GEO is for a small or medium business that wants the work done: we fix the site, write and publish the pages, work through the sources with you, and track daily, from $990 a month after the free audit. GEO Consulting & Trends is for a large company with its own web, content, and PR teams: we research, audit, build the roadmap per market, track daily, and brief you monthly, and your teams execute. The free audit is the same in both cases, and the first call is where we say which one fits.
