Why do Reddit threads matter for AI answers?
Because the engines cite them. When ChatGPT or Perplexity answers a comparison question, it often points to a thread where real users describe what they use and why, and treats that thread as evidence. If the thread it leans on never mentions you, the answer is unlikely to either. Social Monitoring shows which threads carry that weight for your prompts, so the work goes where the engines are already looking.
What the engine is doing with the thread
Ask an AI engine for the best option in your category and the sources under the answer are as often a Reddit thread, a YouTube review, or a LinkedIn post as a vendor's own site. A thread has people describing what they bought, what broke, and what they switched to, and the engine treats that as evidence. The brands the thread names are the brands the answer is likely to name.
That is why your own pages can be in good shape and still leave you out of the answer. The engine did not read your pages for that question. It read the thread.
