Frequently asked question · Prompt Tracking
Why can’t I edit a prompt after it has run?
Because every metric reads the prompt’s text and country live. If you reworded it, every answer already collected would be reported as if it had always been about the new wording, and the trend would lie. Instead you replace it: the original is archived with its history, and a successor starts fresh with the same tags, persona, and topic volume.
What "reads live" means
Each stored answer points at the prompt that produced it. When a report is built, every metric looks up that prompt's text and country at that moment, rather than reading a copy stamped on the answer when it was collected. That is what makes the text load-bearing: change it, and months of answers to the old question are presented as answers to the new one, with no mark in the series to show where the wording changed.
The country works the same way. A prompt run in the United States and then moved to Brazil would show one trend line stitched from two markets that get different answers.
Why a replacement is the honest version
Replacing keeps the two series apart. The original prompt is archived with everything it collected, so the old trend stays readable and stays true. The successor starts its own series from its first run and carries over the tags, the persona, and the topic volume, so it lands in the same reports and the same slices without being set up again.
- Before its first run, a prompt is still open, and text and country can be changed.
- After it, replacing is the only path, and the archived original no longer counts against your allowance.
Reading the two series
A successor has no history on its first day, and its mention rate needs a few daily runs before it says anything. Read the old and new series side by side, with the archive holding the first one, instead of treating them as one line that happened to change its question halfway through.
