Frequently asked question · B2B SaaS

Our docs live on a subdomain and our pricing says “contact sales”. Does that matter?

Docs on a subdomain are fine: we register it as a property you own, so the engines’ citations of it count for you, and we audit it like any other URL. Hidden pricing is harder. An engine asked “what does it cost” answers anyway, from a directory listing, a two-year-old review, or a competitor’s comparison of you, and you do not get to correct it. We will push you to publish at least the shape of it: plans, what drives the price, a starting point.

How the subdomain is handled

Docs answer "does it integrate with X" in plain words, which is exactly what an engine wants to quote. We register the docs subdomain as a property you own in the platform, so when an engine cites a docs page the citation lands in your column and not in a third party's. The audit then runs the same 21 checks on it that it runs on your main site, including crawler access for the 20 AI bots we track.

The failures we see on docs subdomains are rarely about the subdomain itself. They are docs that render in the browser with nothing in the HTML, a robots.txt on that host that nobody remembers adding, and pages without real headings. Each is a template fix, and it reaches every page built from the template.

What happens to a hidden price

The engine does not leave the question blank. Asked what your product costs, it takes the most plausible figure it can find: a directory listing, a review written two versions ago, or your competitor's comparison page, which has no reason to state your price kindly. That figure then reads as current to every buyer who asks, and you never see the answer that lost you the deal.

The shape we push you to publish

You do not have to publish a full rate card. What the engines need is enough text to quote: the plans that exist, what drives the price, whether that is seats, usage, or tiers, and a starting point. A sentence like "from X per month for small teams" answers the question without ending the sales conversation. Once that text is on a page the crawlers can read, the daily runs show when the engines start quoting it instead of guessing.
