Frequently asked question · PR & Comms
How quickly does a story show up in AI answers?
It depends on the engine and on where the story ran. Engines that search the web can cite a piece within days of publication; others lean on what they were trained on and take longer. We run your questions every day, so you see the first engine to pick a story up, from which outlet, and how the framing spreads from there. We do not promise a timeline.
Why the engines differ
The engines do not all read the web the same way. An engine that searches before it answers can pick up a piece within days of publication, provided it ran in an outlet that engine already leans on. An engine that answers mostly from what it was trained on will keep giving the older summary until its training catches up, and that can take much longer. The same story can be in one engine's answer this week and absent from another's for months.
Where the story ran matters as much as when. The engines cite a mix of news outlets, Reddit threads, YouTube videos, review sites and company pages, and they do not weigh outlets by reach. A trade press piece in an outlet the engines never cite can sit unread while a subreddit they cite in half their answers picks the story up on its own.
What you see day by day
Because we run your questions once a day on every major AI engine, a story's spread is something you watch rather than infer. The daily runs show:
- The first engine to cite the piece, and from which outlet or page
- How the summary shifts as more engines pick it up
- Whether the framing that spreads is yours, or a competitor's version of it
The movers tables then compare each period with the one before, so an outlet gaining share on the back of the story, or one losing it, gets flagged.
What we will not tell you
We do not put a number of days on it, because the honest answer changes per engine, per outlet and per month. What we can do is tell you, in the monthly briefing, where the story landed, where it did not, and which outlets in your category are the ones the engines actually read.
