Frequently asked question · PR & Comms

Is this media monitoring?

No. Media monitoring tells you where you were mentioned. We tell you what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and the rest say when someone asks about you, which sources they built that answer from, and how both change over time. Most clients keep their monitoring tool and use us for the layer it cannot see.

What a monitoring tool watches, and what it misses

A media monitoring tool is built around the mention. An outlet publishes, the alert fires, and the dashboard adds the piece to reach, sentiment and share of coverage. What it cannot tell you is whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity read the piece, whether any of them cite it when someone asks about your company, and what the summary a buyer or a reporter gets actually says.

That summary is written fresh, every day, from whichever sources the engine trusts. Old coverage drops off a monitoring dashboard when the cycle ends. In the answers it can stay for as long as no better source exists, and no clipping ever arrives to warn you.

What we track instead

Once a day, on every major AI engine, we run the questions a buyer, a candidate or a reporter asks about your company, its news and its category. Every answer is stored in full, with your brand and each competitor highlighted, and every citation is logged: the outlet, the page, and where in the answer it sits.

From that you get three things a monitoring tool does not report:

  • What the engines say when someone asks about you, engine by engine, day over day
  • Which sources they built the answer from, ranked and tagged as yours, a competitor's or third-party
  • Which sources gained, lost or dropped out since the last period, flagged before the change reaches your mention rate

Why clients keep both

The monitoring tool tells you the story ran. We tell you whether an engine read it and whether the placement changed the answer. Most teams keep the tool for the coverage and add us for the layer above it, then use the monthly briefing to decide what to pitch next.
