Frequently asked question · PR & Comms

How does this fit with our PR agency?

It gives them a target list. The briefing names the outlets the engines cite in your category, the threads that need a reply, and the pages your newsroom is missing. Your agency pitches and places as it always has, and we measure whether the placements changed the answer. That replaces nobody; it gives the work a scoreboard.

What changes for the agency

Nothing about how they pitch or place. What changes is where the targets come from. Today an agency ranks outlets by reach and relevance, and reports placements the same way. The engines rank outlets differently: by whether they trust them enough to cite them for a given question. A placement in a big outlet the engines never read does less for the answer than a reply in a subreddit they cite in half of them.

Each month the briefing hands your agency that ranking:

  • The outlets the engines cite in your category, in order of share
  • The Reddit threads, videos and posts that pull into answers about you and need a reply or a better source
  • The newsroom pages the engines are looking for and not finding
  • The competitor framing the engines have adopted, so the pitch can counter it

How the scoreboard works

Every placement the agency lands is something we can check against the answers. We log which pages the engines cite, so a placed piece either shows up in the citation tables or it does not. The movers tables then show whether it gained share over the following periods, and whether the summary itself changed. Share of voice against the competitors you name, per engine and per question, is the line that finally gives earned media a number tied to what the engines say.

Where the line sits

We do not write the pitches or hold the relationships; the agency does, and so do your own writers. We bring the answers, the sources behind them and the roadmap. For a smaller company with no agency and no bench to write the newsroom pages, Managed GEO is the version where we write and ship them ourselves.
