Frequently asked question · Measure AI Traffic

Does the platform measure AI referral visits?

No. The platform records answers, not visits: which engines name you, cite you, and recommend a competitor, every day, for the prompts you track. Visits from AI assistants are already in your own analytics, filed under referral, and that is where they should stay counted. As part of an engagement we set that channel up in GA4 or whatever you run, with landing pages and conversions, and read it beside the answer data in the monthly report. Nobody should sell you a second analytics tool for a row your current one can show.

Two halves, two instruments

AI traffic has a half you can count and a half you cannot, and they need different instruments. The visits are events on your site, so the right place to count them is the analytics you already run, where they can be tied to the landing pages and conversions you already define. The answers happen on someone else's screen and mostly never send a click, so the only way to measure them is to ask the engines yourself, every day, and keep what they say. The platform does the second job and only the second.

What we set up in your analytics

The visits from AI assistants are already in GA4, filed under referral beside every other link on the web. As part of an engagement we define a channel for them: a grouping or segment that gathers chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, copilot.microsoft.com, gemini.google.com, and the rest, with landing pages and conversions attached, so the row shows up in the reports your team already opens.

That row stays undercounted, and the report says so. Referrers get stripped, some assistants open links without one, and a click from a Google AI Overview or AI Mode arrives as google.com organic. It is still worth having: it is the row where a small channel that converts stops disappearing into a bucket called referral.

What the platform records instead

Your buyers' questions run once a day on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Mode. The platform keeps every answer with its sources and the brands it named, and from that come mention rate, citation rate, share of voice against named competitors, and position score. The monthly report puts the referral row and those four numbers on the same page and says which is which.
