Which institutions do you track us against?
The ones the engines name for your questions, which are rarely the ones in your peer group. We run your program-level questions first and read who got named per market, then agree the competitor set with you: a few named rivals per program, plus anyone the engines keep naming that you had not considered. We measure share of voice, position score, and movers against that set, and it can change as the answers do.
Why the peer group is the wrong starting point
Your peer group was drawn up for rankings, accreditation, and benchmarking. The engines do not consult it. When someone asks ChatGPT for the best online MBA for a working professional in Texas, the answer is assembled from a Niche ranking, a U.S. News list, and a thread on r/MBA, and the three schools it names are whoever those sources put together. A bootcamp can appear beside a research university for a data science question, and a school you have never benchmarked against can be the one taking your applicant in one market.
So we start from the answers, not from your list. In the first weeks the platform runs your program-level questions daily in each market you recruit from, and we read who got named, how early, and by which engine.
How the set gets agreed
From that read we bring you a proposed competitor set: a few named rivals per program, plus the institutions the engines keep naming that were not on your radar. You add the ones you care about for reasons the engines do not know yet. The set is per program, because the business school's rivals are not the nursing school's.
What we measure against it
Share of voice: of the institutions named across your questions, how often it is you. Position score: how early in the answer you appear. Movers: who gained or lost share since the last window. All three are cut by program, engine, country, and persona, so the international office reads its own numbers.
The set is not fixed. When an engine starts naming a new institution for one of your programs, it shows up in the movers, and we revisit the set with you.
