Frequently asked question · Universities & Education
Our site has tens of thousands of pages. What do you actually audit?
One URL of each template: a program page, a department page, a catalog entry, a brochure, a news article, and the home page, on each host and subdomain that matters. The 21 checks find what the template gets wrong, which is what every page built from it gets wrong, and the roadmap fixes it once. We check crawler access per host, because the rule that blocks the engines is usually in one robots.txt that nobody in marketing has opened.
Why one URL per template is enough
A forty thousand page site is not forty thousand decisions. It is a program page template, a department template, a course catalog, a news template, and a few hundred PDFs, each repeated thousands of times. Whatever the program template gets wrong, every page built from it gets wrong the same way. So we score one URL of each and read that score as a verdict on the whole set.
What the 21 checks ask
The checks are plain. Is the text in the page, or drawn in by script after it loads? Does the program page state cost, format, duration and outcomes where an engine can quote them, or are they spread across the bursar's site and a PDF brochure? A few checks run once for the whole site rather than per template: the sitemap, the canonicals, the structured data, the llms.txt.
Crawler access is the exception we repeat. We check the 20 AI bots we track on each host and subdomain, because the catalog, the business school and the news site often serve their own robots.txt, and only one of them is closed.
What comes back
The roadmap names the template, the check that failed, and the team that owns the fix, in the order we would do them. One fix to a template reaches every page built from it, which is why the list stays short enough to act on. Then the tracking shows what moved in the answers once your web team shipped it.
