Frequently asked question · Optimize Content for AI
What makes a page one an AI engine will quote?
It can be fetched, it answers one question in its first paragraph, and the answer carries facts in plain sentences: who it is for, where, what it costs, how long it takes, how it compares. The headings are the questions people ask. The detail is first-hand, the date is recent, and any FAQ matches the copy a reader can see. Structured data helps when it describes that visible copy and hurts when it describes something else. Length on its own does nothing; a short page with a number beats a long one with none.
Fetchable first
Nothing else on this list matters if the crawler cannot get the page. That means the URL is allowed in robots.txt for the retrieval crawlers, the text is in the HTML rather than drawn in by a script, and the material is on the page itself instead of in a PDF, behind a tab, or inside an accordion. The GEO audit checks all of that per template, and on a page that fails, the copy is invisible however good it is.
The answer in the first paragraph
An engine is answering one person's whole question, and it cites the page that answers it soonest. So the first paragraph states the answer, with the facts in plain sentences: what it is, who it is for, where, what it costs, how long it takes, how it compares to the alternatives. The headings below are the questions people actually ask, each followed by its answer, so a section can be lifted on its own.
This is why a Reddit thread with eleven replies can be cited ahead of a 3,000-word guide. The thread states a price, a number, or a first-hand result. The guide describes the topic.
Specific, first-hand, and dated
The detail an engine can trace to you is the detail it quotes: your price, your process, your numbers, your comparison. A page that could have been written by anyone in the category gives it nothing to attribute. The date matters too. The AI-cited pages in the study on this page are on average about a quarter newer than Google's organic results, and a page updated this year signals that its facts still hold.
Last, the FAQ at the bottom says what the page above it says. Structured data helps when it describes the visible copy and hurts when it describes something else, so we keep it honest rather than clever.
