Frequently asked question · Optimize Content for AI
How do we find out which of our pages the engines cite?
From the daily runs. Every answer to every tracked prompt is kept with the sources it cited, so the cited-pages table lists each URL the engines used, marked as yours, a competitor’s, or third-party, with how many answers cited it and on which engine. You see the docs page cited by all five engines and the pillar page cited by none, and the Reddit thread that outranks both. It is a saved view you can open any day, and it moves as the fixes and the new pages land, engine by engine, on the engines’ own schedule rather than a date we promised.
Where the table comes from
Every tracked prompt runs once a day on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Mode, and each answer is stored with every source it cited. The cited-pages table is built from that store. Each row is one URL the engines used, marked as yours, a competitor's, or third party, with how many answers cited it, on which engine, and for which prompts. The cited-domains table rolls the same data up by site, so you can see how much of your category's answers lean on Reddit, on a review site, or on one competitor's docs.
What it tends to show
The first read is usually a surprise in both directions. A docs page nobody on the marketing team thinks about is cited by all five engines. The pillar page that holds position two on Google is cited by none. A Reddit thread with eleven replies outranks both, and a YouTube walkthrough is the source for your own product's setup steps. Reddit, YouTube, and LinkedIn pages are listed separately, with whether the answers that cite them also mention you, because that is where the next page you need to show up on usually is.
How it moves
The table is a saved view, so you can open it any day and share it by link. Each window carries its movers: the pages, prompts, and domains that gained or lost citations since the previous window of the same length. When a template fix ships or a new page goes live, that is where you watch for it, engine by engine, on the engines' own schedule. We count citations here and leave visits to your analytics, because a page optimized for AI is measured by whether the answer quotes it.
