Frequently asked question · Product Marketing

How fast does the description change once we fix the pages?

Unevenly, and never on a date we can promise you. The rewrite has to be recrawled first, and that alone takes weeks. After that the engines separate: the one that reads your site often starts quoting your sentence, while another repeats a two-year-old review because nothing better exists for it to lift, and a competitor’s comparison page keeps winning the “vs” prompts until yours is published. What we can tell you is which engine changed, on which prompt, on which day, because we ran that question that day. A claim that is still missing from every engine after a quarter is usually a claim no page of yours states plainly enough to quote.

The sequence after a rewrite ships

The page goes live, and nothing happens until an engine's crawler fetches the new version. That is the first delay, and it is measured in weeks. Then the engine has to prefer your new sentence over whatever it was quoting before, and that depends on what else exists. If the only other source is a two-year-old review, your plain statement tends to win once it is read. If a competitor's comparison page is the source for the "vs" prompts, it keeps winning them until a comparison of yours exists to be cited.

This is why a launch can reach the homepage and the deck and still not reach the answers. Six weeks later Perplexity may still describe the product you retired, because the pages it trusts have not changed and nobody checked.

Why the engines separate

Each engine crawls at its own rate and trusts its own set of sources, so one rewrite lands at five different times. The daily runs make that visible: we ran the question on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews that day, and kept each answer, so the report shows which engine changed, on which prompt, on which day. The monthly briefing lines those movers up against what your team shipped in the same window.

Reading a claim that never moves

A claim that is still missing from every engine after a quarter usually has a cause on your side of the fence: no page states it plainly enough to quote, or the page that does is one the engines never retrieve. The gap analysis names which, and the fix is a sentence on a page rather than more waiting.
