Frequently asked question · Product Marketing
Can you change what ChatGPT says about our product?
Not directly, and nobody can. Engines build the description from the sources they retrieve, so the work is changing the sources: your pages stating the positioning plainly, comparison and use-case content that answers the questions buyers ask, and presence on the third-party pages the engines cite. We show you which ones each engine leans on, and the description follows them.
Where the description comes from
When an engine is asked what your product is, it retrieves a handful of pages and writes from them. Those pages might be an old review, a competitor's comparison page, or a Reddit thread, and if that is what exists, that is the description. A headline and a deck leave the engine nothing to lift; it quotes the page that states the positioning in one plain sentence. The line "a cheaper alternative to the category leader" usually traces to a competitor's own comparison page, because no page of yours said otherwise in a quotable way.
The three places the work goes
The engagement starts with a baseline: how every engine describes your product today, against each competitor and per persona, with the sources behind each description. From there the gap analysis marks the claims that never appear, the category the engines put you in, and whose framing they borrowed. The work then goes to three kinds of source:
- Your own pages: a page-by-page brief on what each positioning page has to state to be quoted.
- Content you have not written: the "X vs Y", "best tool for", and use-case questions your buyers ask and your site leaves unanswered, prioritized by demand.
- Third-party pages: the review sites, communities, and comparison pages each engine leans on for your category, so your team knows where presence matters.
How you watch it move
The daily runs put your buyers' questions to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews and keep every answer, so you read the description in each engine's words and see which claims it repeats and which it drops. Your team changes the sources; the description follows them, at the engines' pace rather than ours.
