Why the engines want a second source

An engine names a brand it can read, corroborate, and place. Your own site covers the first part. The corroboration has to come from somewhere else, because an engine will not name a brand on the brand's own word. So it assembles the answer to a best-option question from whatever it trusts for that category: a Reddit thread, two review sites, a directory, a YouTube video. If you are on none of them, nothing backs you up, however good your site is.

Which sources carry weight is not something to guess at. In one category it is two review sites and a trade publication; in another it is Reddit, YouTube, and a directory. A few sources carry most answers, and they differ by category, by engine, and by market.

What the tables tell you

The cited-domains and cited-pages tables show what each answer in your category is built from. Each source is ranked by how often the engines lean on it and marked as yours, a competitor's, or somebody else's. Reddit, YouTube, and LinkedIn pages are ranked the same way, because the engines cite the thread about your category too.

From that list the roadmap says which sources to earn a presence in, and how:

• A review profile to complete
• A thread to answer, plainly and under your own name
• A directory listing to claim
• A reviewer who needs your facts for the comparison

What your site still has to do

The source work moves on the sources' own schedule, and the tracking shows when it does. Your own site is the one source you control, and the page a review or a thread points to has to state the facts they repeat: what you sell, for whom, where, and at what price.
